This is the RYA powerboat scheme. We offer a combined level 1 & 2 course and the Safety Boat course at Weir Wood. If you have any questions, please contact us.
Powerboat Basic Skills (Level 1 & 2)
Pre-course experience: None
Assumed knowledge: None
Minimum age: 14
Course content: All you need to know for self-sufficient powerboating at a basic level. Course includes launching, mooring, anchoring and recovery plus all the boat driving skills required for basic competence in a powerboat
Ability after course: Self-sufficient powerboat in the right conditions; aware of own limitations and those of craft
Duration: 2 days
Safety Boat Course
Pre-course experience: Competent to Powerboat Level 2
Assumed knowledge: Basic knowledge of sailing boats
Minimum age: 16
Course content: Boat handling, rescue techniques for sailing dinghies, windsurfers and canoes, and tows. Rescuing people from the water
Ability after course: Able to provide safety cover to a range of craft, particularly sailing or windsurfing
