Oppy Club is for children aged 8-15 and runs on Saturday afternoons from 2pm (rigged and ready to sail) to approximately 4pm. It is run by qualified coaches, instructors and other parents. The sessions offer children the opportunity to sail and develop their skills to a high level of racing competence, in a friendly, safe and supportive environment.
Weir Wood has an active Optimist fleet with boats sailing every Saturday afternoon during the season which runs from March to November with winter training sessions for the keener sailors. The children in the group have a lot of fun and make good friends on and off the water.
|Beginners||7-11||Sessions for members and non members children to learn the basics of Optimist sailing. Session are run by RYA instructors and include use of club boats, buoyancy aids and safety helmets. ||Opibats||Places can be booked (subject to availability) here
|Intermediates||8-15||Aimed at those who have reached at least the IOCA Grade 1 level and who have started the progression towards IOCA Grade 2 or 3. ||Optimist||Club members may also hire boats during club sessions (subject to availability) here
|Racing||8-15||The racing group works to help sailors of IOCA Grades 3 level or above develop their racing skills with Level 2 race coaches, be part of the regular Saturday pm races and go to the wide range of Open Meetings and Optimist Championships which many of our sailors compete in during the year. ||Optimist||Club members may also hire boats during club sessions (subject to availability) here
