The Cruising Season opened on 13th May when 4 dinghies from our club crossed the Solent for lunch at The Folly which is halfway up the Medina (pass Cowes on your right, head for Newport in the middle of the island and it is on your left).
There are plenty more opportunities to get out and about with us and the programme for the 2017 Cruising Season is below.
|10th and/or 11th June||Visit to Mengham Harbour Explorers which is part of Mengham Rythe Sailng Club invites us to join them on their cruise to Dell Quay. Mengham Rythe SC is at the south end of Hayling Island, they have access to the water 2½hours either side of high water so timing is crucial. It’s a 2 day affair but camping is not available as it coincides with a Solo racing event. There are campsites and B&B nearby. HW Saturday is 13.09 and on Sunday 13.46. You might want to have a fall-back plan in place!|
|22nd July||Southampton Water cruise from Warsash SC to Ashlett Creek Sailing Club. A day cruising the semi-sheltered Southampton Water with lunch at the sailing club which is up a drying creek on the west side.|
|19th August||Warsash SC to Newtown Creek on the Isle of Wight, one of our favourite destinations, very wild scenery and no pub!|
|9th September||Round the Isle of Sheppey Race. Ok not strictly a cruise and even includes elements of racing (I suppose the clue is in the name) but a great day sailing from Sheerness to… err Sheerness via the Swale and Queenborough. See the report elsewhere in the Cruising pages. At least three boats are going, let’s get a few more registered. For details visit http://www.iossc.co.uk/island-race|
|23rd & 24th September||Wootton Creek Weekender. This will be the third weekender trip, starting from (you guessed it) Warsash Sailing Club, we cross to Fishguard on the Isle of Wight then creep up Wootton Creek and, at the top of the tide we can just about reach club member Richard’s holiday cottage. After a brilliant evening including barbecue we settle down to sleep ready for a bright and early start next morning to catch the tide down-creek and home to Warsash.|
|20th – 23rd October||Norfolk Broads Yacht Cruise. We have chartered two classic Broiads Yachts for a long weekend of Broads sailing. At the time of writing there is just one space still available.|
