Twisters at The Tilley Endurables Falmouth Classics

Friday 22nd – Sunday 24th June 2018

Friday 22nd June 2018

Cabrach; Martin Pascoe’s 28ft Twister class yacht.

To leave from a packed marina does feel intimidating; however, with so many willing hands there are no problems. We all proceed to the start having been delayed due to large shipping movements. Having moved to the start area the wind started to play its tricks on the fleet. By the time the big ship was in the land breeze fell light and the sea breeze got up. So the start line has to be moved. No sooner do we arrive at the start area the sea breeze drops and the land breeze picks up.

Eventually we are off. Nirvana gives Cabrach a wake-up call on the line; a good race and well done to all. First, Rompa (Mike Cherry); second, Nirvana (Mike Biglin); third, Cabrach (Martin Pascoe); fourth, Texere – no spinnaker – (John Lee).

Saturday 23rd June 2018

Cabrach’s crew (from l-r excluding the person on the extreme left); Martin Pascoe (Skipper), Vic Hopkins, David Ramshaw, Keith Payne, Megan Pascoe

The second race was started on time. All was well until Grayhound fired his cannon, frightening the life out of everyone. Because the wind had fallen light there was a good deal of concentration required. It was then a problem because of the 3-hour time limit. However, Rompa just made it to the finish. First Rompa (Mike Cherry); second Cabrach (Martin Pascoe); third Nirvana (Mike Biglin); fourth Texere – no spinnaker – (John Lee).
In the evening we went to The Royal Cornwall Yacht Club for a superb barbecue and a very pleasant social evening.

Sunday 24th June 2018

The Classic Parade was marvellous. Led by HMS Biter and HMS Charger, followed by two lifeboats and the fleet of boats over 40 feet including one boat being manned by a bank of oarsmen; a super finish to an exhilarating event.

In spite of all the rumours on our boat Betty Stoggs is not my girlfriend!
Vic Hopkins (Cabrach).
