We realise that not all sailors want to race. Many of us prefer to take in and enjoy the fantastic environment on offer at Weir Wood Reservoir in agreeable like-minded company.
Social sailing is very informal and is open to all. Maybe you want to gain more experience & time on the water but want to avoid joining in on the busy race days. Perhaps you may want to try out some of our hire boats before buying your own, or you are getting used to one that you have recently obtained.
We are not, and don’t pretend to be, instructors. But we are all more than willing to help anybody with rigging up, launching, or to give encouragement, all with no pressure at all.
Generally, we meet at about 1pm for a packed lunch & chat in the clubhouse, followed by rigging up before sailing for a couple of hours. Afterwards we gather in the clubhouse for tea & biscuits.
On Wednesdays we have a support boat on the water at every session which is organised amongst ourselves, and we each contribute a pound a session which goes towards tea, biscuits & fuel.
On Sunday afternoons no contribution is required as the support boat is provided by others. Additionally, we do not need to bring packed lunches as the galley is open for the purchase of hot & cold drinks and food.
If it’s your type of thing, come along, see us and have a chat, and you’ll be sure of a warm welcome.
