Walk around the Reservoir
Jan 26 @ 08:00 – 12:00

On Saturday January 26, Charles Macrorie, our new Social Secretary, is inviting members to join his regular walking group (http://www.cross-walk.co.uk/index.html) for breakfast and a 7km walk around the reservoir.   With a nod to Burns a full Scottish Breakfast will be served in the clubroom from 08.00.  Walk starts off at 08.45 and should take 2.5-3 hours.  (For the fit ones there’s an additional 4km loop round Gravetye Manor).  The walk will finish back at WWSC for coffee  and a chat 11.00 – 12.00.  Donations to Charles on the day to cover costs.  To register your interest or for more information, please email social@wwsc.org.uk.  Dogs welcomed on walk (but not at club).

Cruising Planning Meeting
Feb 8 @ 20:00 – 22:00

Mike Summers writes, “The Cruising Calendar for 2018 has drawn to a close so it is time to plan this new season’s activities.  If you are interested in Cruising, loosely defined as not-racing, then come and join us in the clubhouse at 20.00 on Friday 8 February when we will review last year and talk about what we want to do next year.  We generally organise a few expeditions across the Solent to the Isle of Wight each year but that may not be everybody’s ambition. Let’s think about Cruising on our beautiful reservoir (not-racing, remember?) as well as other salty or inland venues and destinations”.  You can contact Mike on cruising@wwsc.org.uk

Fast and Furious
Feb 24 @ 10:30 – 13:00

Fast & Furious objective is to sharpen up racing skills, with an emphasis on fun, skill sharing and keeping the fleet together for more interaction on the water.

The revised start sequence for F&F race days in January February and March 2019 will be as follows-

  • A 45 minute Series race will be run starting at 10:30 hrs   This will use the normal  3 minute sequence for Slow, Fast and Laser Fleets.
  • At 11:30 hrs (approx) will be the first F&F race start .
  • It is anticipated that up to five races will be held with the final race finishing at about 13:00 hrs.
  • The Slow and Fast handicap fleets will start together followed by the Laser fleet
  • The proposed start/flag sequence will  use the current 1 minute between signals  as follows-

Warning Signal- Handicap flag Yellow with a  Black ‘H’- Laser flag White with Red Laser logo- both raised

1 minute signal- ‘P’ flag raised

2 minute signal- One minute to Handicap/ Two minutes to Laser Start – ‘P’ flag lowered

3 minute signal- Handicap start- Yellow Handicap flag lowered

4 minute signal- Laser start- White/Red Laser flag lowered.

NOTE- The Laser fleet start 1 minute AFTER the combined Handicap fleets, this reduces the overall sequence to 4 minutes-

Team Racing at Bough Beech @ Bough Beech Sailing Club
Mar 9 @ 09:30 – 17:00

Chris Hopkins writes, “On 9 March Bough Beech are running a team racing event and have invited to send a senior and a junior team.  For those not familiar with team racing, each team has 3 identical boats (6 people); races are very short (maybe 10 minutes) with each team sailing against the others on a round robin basis leading to a knock out completion for the finals.  The winning team is not necessarily the one with the first boat home but more likely the team that does not have the last boat home so it’s very tactical to help your tail enders catch up and pass the opposition.  It would be good to run a practice session or two in advance to give us an understanding of the format.  University students or graduates with experience of team racing particularly welcome”.  If anyone is interested, please contact Chris on Satyouth@WWSC.org.uk.
